Summary
Dr. Kirouac’s research s in the area of behavioral neurosciences and is focused on understanding how brain circuits translate emotional experiences into motivated behavior. Dr. Kirouac’s laboratory applies anatomical, pharmacological, and molecular techniques to investigate how complex interconnected brain circuits mediate adaptive behaviors in animal models. His research is funded primarily through Canadian Institutes of Health Research.

Expanded Summary
Read More

Dr. Kirouac combined his interest in animal behavior with his training in neuroanatomy and physiology to develop a unique expertise for investigating brain circuits that regulate fear and anxiety. He is an internationally recognized expert on the paraventricular nucleus of the thalamus (PVT) which has become a hot area of research being pursued in many laboratories around the world. Much of the current interest on the PVT has been driven by his research on the PVT starting in the mid-1990s and ongoing research from Dr. Kirouac’s group continue to influence research on the PVT and the thalamus.
