Neuroscience research projects receive CIHR funding

More than $12 million in funding from the Canadian Institutes for Health Research has been awarded to UM researchers. Three neuroscience projects were among the 19 U of M studies selected to receive funding from the Spring 2021 competition.
The lead investigators include Dr. Marcus Ng, Dr. James Nagy, and Dr. Tabrez Siddiqui. Learn more below.

Dr. Marcus Ng
Associate Professor, Internal Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, Max Rady College of Medicine
Grant: $548, 890 (5 years)
Research will focus on seizure mapping in epilepsy.

Dr. James Nagy
Professor, Physiology & Pathophysiology, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, Max Rady College of Medicine
Grant: $742, 050 (5 years)
Research will focus on electrical synaptic transmission and involvement of gap junction proteins in normal and disease conditions.

Dr. Tabrez Siddiqui
Associate Professor, Physiology & Pathophysiology, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, Max Rady College of Medicine
Grant: $983,026 (five years)
Research will investigate altered biochemical signaling in the brain and develop targeted drug treatments in neuropsychiatric disorders.
